Looks like the Yankees are now a threat to be reckoned with! They have a tentative deal in place to sign first baseman Richie Sexson for a pro-rated league minimum salary. Financially, it is a safe move, but signing a guy who was cut by the worst team in baseball? My guess is they want to solidify defense at second base, add a right handed bat that is effective against lefties, and utilize Jason Giambi (while he is relatively hot) more as the DH in Matsui's absence?
Anyway, not a terrible move, but what they really need is pitching!

Rooster, that's exactly what I was going to say...the Yankees need hurlers, hopefully (for us), bad ones. Have a great weekend, my blog friend. Two of three against the Angels would be very sweet.
Scratchin and clawin, but will they ever learn, money can't buy them happiness or a World Series ring for that matter.

Though completely irrelevant, the fact that Tony Clark was just reacquired by arizona as "a bat", after looking completely washed up as long ago as 2002, makes me nervous about another tall, lots of whiffs washed up looking first sacker.
But it shouldn't. It's just that Clark almost won- what was it, game 5 of the 04 ALCS?- with an 11th inning (or so) double that luckily for us, hopped up into the stands. I can just picture Sexson batting .180 and hitting a dong off Javier Lopez in september.
Soxlosophy, I remember the way Tony could reach up, waayyy up, to snare an errant throw from someone at first base. He's a good guy, always was.
Peter - they sure do need pitching most of all, but shoring up the bench is not a bad thing. Like Soxlosohy is alluding to, a guy like that might be irrelevant during the bulk of the season, but with one swing in a pinch hitting role, can be a dagger in the playoffs.
Pissa - The one thing you have to tip your hat to on this deal is the money is very low - league minimum, so they picked up some insurance but not for much dough. Not the kind of move that will make a huge difference, but it does add a small piece to the puzzle.
